One of Toronto’s most famous attractions, Graffiti Alley runs parallel to a popular stretch of Queen Street West. It encompasses three city blocks and includes Rush Lane, an adjoining alleyway. The popular area is a unique place to view some of the best examples of Toronto’s vibrant street art and mural culture. Formally a hot spot for unauthorized graffiti, the alley was legalized and in 2011, Graffiti Alley was designated as an area of municipal significance and StreetARToronto (StART) was created, which provides funding and approval for public murals and graffiti art. Today the area is a popular area for Instagram selfies, photoshoots, small street festivals, and even music videos. Viewers can also enjoy incredible message-driven hand-painted murals and works by well-known artists like ELICSER, uber5000, and Duro the third. Today, Graffiti Alley has become an increasingly common area for artists to show their solidarity with causes like the anti-racism movement.
